Four Dancesmashes in about a year

Timeless, Overdrive, Twister, and the In Silence remix were all Radio 538 Dancesmashes, a run the Dutch biography treats as unprecedented.

Between autumn 2003 and summer 2004, Radio 538 put a Dancesmash mark on his music four times. Timeless came first, already under his own name. Overdrive followed, billed as Ron van den Beuken presents Clokx: the station called it a Dancesmash on 9 January 2004, and it was his first Top 40 record.

Twister, made with Sander van Doorn as Sam Sharp, was the third. The remix of Katana’s In Silence was the fourth. The Dutch Wikipedia says no artist had collected four Dancesmashes in so short a span.

The run explains why 2003 and 2004 matter more than any single track. Clokx brought the dance audience, Timeless gave the name to wider radio, and the remix showed he was being asked onto other people’s hits.
